TAC Climate Collective

We took matters into our own hands!

On March 31st the Climate Collective had its first-ever art-making live session led by one of its members: Teaching Artist Pat Cruz. Our beloved Pat gave us the chance to engage in the art of Gesture Drawing and reflect on what we've learned from the “School of The (Im) Possible” at our previous meeting.

Join us at our next gathering!

About this month’s action item:

DO WE STILL HAVE TIME?

The FINAL WARNING has been delivered!

The synthesis IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), recently launched, that summarizes years of scientific production says one message loud and clear:

WE NEED #CLIMATEACTION NOW!

Unfortunately, we are reaching the tipping point for life on this planet. Average global temperatures have risen 1.1º C above pre-industrial levels and, as stated previously, human activity is the one responsible for it. We’re likely to exceed 1.5º C of warming. So, we need to reach #NetZeroEmissions, with expressive reductions until 2030 (not 2050!). World’s most vulnerable populations are the ones that are NOW being affected disproportionately, exacerbating inequity. Climate impacts on people and ecosystems are more widespread and severe than expected, and future risks will escalate rapidly with every fraction of a degree of warming, almost half of our population is highly vulnerable to climate collapse. WE DO HAVE TIME, but only if we take urgent #ClimateAction to secure a liveable future for all NOW!

WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

The latest report is a survivor’s guide for humanity.

  • Expanding renewable energy;
  • Changing our way of transport;
  • Building efficient buildings;
  • Guaranteeing healthy nutrition, with food security & food sovereignty;
  • Phasing out fossil fuel infrastructure;
  • Investing in carbon removal technologies;
  • Addressing climate justice;
  • Increasing climate finance to scale solutions;
  • Promoting Forest restoration;
  • Investing in ocean protection.

GOOD NEWS?

Most of these solutions are already out there. And they often come attached to better lives, cleaner air, better health, liveable cities & safer homes. We need urgent, systemwide transformations to secure a net-zero, climate-resilient future.

The report is very clear that we only have a chance if we #ACT4CLIMATENOW.

“Our world needs climate action on all fronts - everything, everywhere, all at once.”

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres
