The ITAC Climate Collective - Using Teaching Artistry to Incite Action and Create Change
Eric Booth
Session Synopsis
In May of 2021, Eric Booth announced the ITAC Climate Collective, a group dedicated to advancing the contributions of artists working in communities and schools worldwide to address the climate crisis. The session discussed the opportunities within the working group and issued a call-to-action for recruitment.
The collective has already supported five teaching artists commissioned globally to design and lead projects in local communities. These projects aim not only to address local climate issues but also to shift beliefs and behaviours through creative engagement.
The group brings together artists, art institutions, policymakers, and business leaders, focusing on how the emotional aspects of art can change mentalities, shape behaviors, and find effective solutions. While acknowledging the importance of science and the serious concerns about climate change caused predominantly by human activity, the collective believes in the power of teaching artists to act as powerful agents of change. The purpose of the collective is to harness this power and drive motivation through hope.
