The Emerging Field of Arts, Culture and Conflict transformation
Carmen Oleachea
Session Synopsis
With the advancement of technological and institutional tools, the potential to develop new strategies for halting destruction and discovering sustainable ways to coexist on Earth seems possible.
This extraordinary, overwhelming, yet exciting time prompts us to navigate feelings of fear and hope, vulnerability and empowerment, and shame towards other forms of life alongside pride in our exceptional abilities. Conflicts are not only normal but unavoidable during times of transformation. From an optimistic perspective, the numerous conflicts we are experiencing can be seen as a source of hope, a sign of resilience, and a map of what we need to address urgently.
This quest may involve many tools, but one of the most powerful is Art. Art serves as a complex and complete source of creation and communication. It functions as a language, a technical discipline, a space for self and communal encounters, a manifestation of the zeitgeist, a means to access the collective unconscious, and a way to construct new metaphors and narratives.
